Everett's Birth Story - cesarean birth because he was breech and despite much trying on his moms part, he would NOT turn. Thanks to her Hypnobabies tools, it was a great pregnancy, good birth and easy recovery
Everett arrived on January 27, 2007 at 8:37 am. He
is just perfect! He was 7 lbs 3 oz and 19 ½ inches long. His apgar
scores were 9 and 9.
I didn't have the birth I had envisioned due to the fact that
Everett was breech. No matter what crazy things we did to try and
get him to turn for the past 6 weeks, he was sitting with his bottom
in my pelvis and his head resting against the placenta and was just
too comfortable. I spent hours on the internet finding various
methods of turning the baby. I bought the Hypnobabies Turn Your
Breech Baby CD and listened to it from 32 weeks on. I tried diving
to the drain in a 12 foot deep swimming pool for 1 ½ hours. I tried
chiropractic and acupressure/ aromatherapy. I tried hanging upside
down from my husband's shoulders and on an inverted bench. I can
honestly say that I tried EVERYTHING I could to turn this baby. On
Friday January 12 I went into the hospital for my doctor to do a
version. When the doctor tried to lift the baby from my pelvis, the
baby arched his back and wouldn't budge. After about 5 minutes the
doctor told me it wasn't worth it and that in 2 weeks we would
schedule a c-section. After spending 2 weeks very upset over the
prospect of having a c-section, I decided that I was missing the
whole picture. I had spent the past 9 months growing a baby and I
needed to focus on having this perfect child more than focusing on
the actual birth. Don't get me wrong, the version was my last ditch
effort and when it didn't work I decided to just get excited to have
my baby. Around this same time someone posted her birth story of
having a breech baby and the cord having been around the baby's
neck. This made me realize that there was a reason my child
wouldn't turn and I came to peace with the c-section (still hoping
that the baby would turn).
On Saturday Jan 27 Will and I headed to the hospital at 5:30am. We
had an ultrasound to confirm the baby's position and then headed
into the operating room. I got an epidural and when my husband came
in I looked at him and started to cry. He was able to use my peace
and relax cues and just tell me that everything was going to be ok.
I was able to relax and a few minutes later watched as the Doctors
delivered my son. We didn't know the sex of the baby and this was a
great moment I will treasure forever. As they were suctioning out
the baby's lungs I was just crying and saying over and over "we have
a boy." When they handed me my son, I was so amazed at how perfect
he was. Being a first time mom I had all my unfounded fears and
doubts and it was so great to be able to see this perfect baby.
I debated on writing and posting this however as I was in the
hospital everyone was commenting on how quick I recovered. I was out
of bed within 3 hours of the surgery, walking around the floor
within 24 hours of the surgery. I had very little pain, the highest
I got to on the 10 point pain scale was a 3. I was talking with one
of my nurses and she was telling me how uncommon this is and I
credit it to Hypnobabies. I believe that the 18 weeks I spent
telling my body that it would not feel discomfort, etc. even though
I didn't have a normal childbirth the muscles that were affected are
the muscles that wouldn't have fought the birth.
My baby is wonderful He is the perfect baby and never cries. I
attribute this to Hypnobabies for keeping me calm during my
pregnancy. No matter what happens with my future pregnancies I will
definitely use my Hypnobabies to make it the best possible birth for
my baby.
