Due to strep B I had to go to the hospital sooner than I would've liked, but we stood our ground with not wanting any pitocin to "speed" things up. I didn't start feeling any pressure waves for 9 or 10 hours after my water broke, so we had a relaxing day, napping, snacking, listening to our CD's. Because of the strep B, I never was checked for dilation, at around 4am Sunday I wanted to get in the birthing tub, but the nurses felt I was early on and didn't want to slow my progress, I should've insisted because I was probably around 7cm and found it hard to get in a comfortable position.
Around 7am I insisted I wanted to get in the tub, they said they needed to check me first and found that I was 9.5cm, hence transformation was the least comfortable part of this birth, in the sense I just couldn't get into a comfortable position.
I told the staff I was not ready to push yet, and I took almost 3 more hours to breathe the baby down, second stage was so much comfortable than my previous birth, and I truly felt the strong sensation to push and my little boy was born a couple minutes later!! The doctor covering for my midwife was totally cool with my request to birth on all fours, or table top position, this was so much more comfortable than being in the bed with my feet up (like my first).
